Biographical note
Ofelia Vasquez-Philo was born in Seguin, Texas in 1932. She earned her BA from Antioch University in 1979. Vasquez-Philo has been a prominent figure in the San Marcos community for decades. Along with serving as the director of Community Action, Inc., Vasquez-Philo founded the Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos community center. Vasquez-Philo, an active promoter of Hispanic heritage in Hays County, was the first Hispanic to serve on the San Marcos School Board. The Hays County Historical Commission recently created a video about Vasquez-Philo and her life.
At the time of her interview (October 1986), Vasquez-Philo listed her name as Vasquez.
