Dr. Byron Augustin talks about growing up and attending college in Nebraska. Along with discussing how he ended up in the field of geography and his early work, he speaks about what convinced him to come to Southwest Texas State University. Augustin outlines his methods and philosophies of teaching geography and applauds the faculty of the geography department. He notes how the university and San Marcos have changed, and talks briefly about his travels.

Biographical note

Dr. Byron Augustin (1941–) was born in Hastings, Nebraska. He received his BA from Hastings College (1964), his MA from the University of Kansas (1968), and DA from the University of Northern Colorado (1976). Augustin taught at Northwest Missouri State University before joining the Southwest Texas State University geography department in 1978.

Augustin, now retired, is an widely-recognized educator in the field of geography and at Texas State University. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Alumni Association Teaching Award of Honor (1994), Associated Student Government Outstanding Student Educator, National Council for Geographic Education Distinguished Teaching Achievement Award, Presidential Award for Excellence in Service (2003), Piper Professor (2005), and Regents' Professor Award (2007).
