Clara Marburg Kirk, was an American author married to a professor at Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University), Rudolf Kirk. This collection contains materials related to her book "Oliver Goldsmith" along with a small amount of personal papers.

Contains newspaper clippings from The Sunday Times of April 1951 and correspondence related to these clippings. The first clipping is an article by W. E. Johns entitled “How Lawrence joined the R. A. F.” which appeared in The Sunday Times on April 8. The other clippings are letters to the editor published in response to Johns’ article, one of which was written by John F. Chalkley. The correspondence is between Armitage, Colonel S. F. Newcombe, and John F. Chalkley.

There is also an article about the Kirk-Howells collection from a 1969 issue of the “Library Chronicle.”

"Oliver Goldsmith" drafts, 1964 - 1966
Folders arranged by chapters, then by chronological order. Some include the original folders with handwritten titles and notes. Most contain two or more drafts. The folders begin with the introduction and ascend through all five chapters to notes and bibliography. One section of the introduction contains a date, 1964, but no other dates are found. The chronology of the drafts was determined by author’s notes indicating “original draft” on the exterior of most of her folders.
