Scope and Contents

Collection consists of one scrapbook from 1935 created for Hazel McCanne's student teaching course, Education 410, at North Texas State University. Contains class instructions, roll call list, second grade lesson plans and reflections, diary entries, notes on conferences with professors, teacher and class activates, compiled notes, newspaper clippings, bibliographies, multiple inserted newspapers and pamphlets, illustrative children activities which includes crayon and pencil drawings, achievement tests, and photographs of kids running a post office out of their school room.

Biographical note

Hazel Beatrice McCanne was born to Edgar Earl McCanne and Alma Lee Tribble on July 12, 1911 in Waurika, Oklahoma. She received her Bachelors in 1935, and her Masters in 1938 from North Texas State Teachers College (now University of North Texas). She taught at public schools until joining the Education Department at Southwest Texas State Teaching College in 1945. She was also the Director of Nursey School and Kindergarten for SWTSC 1945-1962. McCanne earned her Ph.D in 1951 from Northwestern University. She helped launch Southwest Texas State’s graduate program in early childhood education in 1972. McCanne was involved in multiple societies and professional organizations including Kappa Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Pi Lambda Theta as well as the Association for Childhood Education International who gave McCanne a Recognition of Services Award. Her hobbies included cooking and traveling. McCanne passed away October 2, 1980.

Condition Description

Item is fragile. Loose items, torn edges, staining from pasted in newsclippings and glue, folded pages, some water damage. Missing previously attached photographs on final pages.
