Anton J. Bek papers

Abstract

This collection contains materials related to Anton J. Bek, and the School of Music at Texas State University. It includes music scores, photos, clippings and one artifact. Many of the musical scores were created by Bek himself using a record player. He copied the music by ear onto blank sheet music, a process that could take from three to seven days, as there was no music program at that time.

Helen Hornsby was one of the first 17 faculty at Southwest Texas State Normal School, teaching from 1903 to 1919. Collection includes materials owned and collected by Helen Hornsby Crawford and her family. Includes topics related to the university, such as Lyndon Johnson, the inauguration of Robert Hardesty, homecoming, and the 50th reunion of the SWT class of 1949.

Materials compiled by Susan Houston Reid about Leonard “Deacon” Wright’s firing from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University) in 1954. Also included are three letters from Eleanor Roosevelt to Dr. Ralph Houston regarding her visit to campus to deliver a lecture in 1957.
