Biographical note

Dr. Bynum came to Texas State University in 1986. During her career at the university, she taught courses on women’s history, politics and culture of Antebellum America, U.S History and Southern History. She retired from the university in 2010. She has published many books and articles on southern history, some of which include: The Long Shadow of the Civil War: Southern Dissent and Its Legacies; The Free State of Jones: Mississippi’s Longest Civil; and Unruly Women: The Politics of Social and Sexual Control in the Old South.
