“Wick Fowler’s Famous 2-alarm Chili” packaging, undated
The largest series, Chili, documents the chili cook-off in Terlingua, the Chili Appreciation Society International, and Wick Fowler’s 2-Alarm Chili product, and contains articles and clippings, a scrapbook, promotional materials, photographic materials, and artifacts. Note that the while the scrapbook largely contains Chili-related clippings, awards, posters, advertisements, and a draft by Fowler, it also contains articles by Fowler on World War II, the Vietnam War, crime, and boating.

There are two documents contained in the series. The first being a typescript for “Just Another Jungle: Short Stories of the Vietnam War.” This typescript later becomes published as Rodriguez’s first book, Humidity Moon. Also included is the short story “Prisoner” written by Rodriguez. The short story also included comments by Tim O’Brien.

There is only one item included in this series. The document is a newspaper clipping on psychologist Marvin Abney who helps Vietnam veterans deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This series contains a number of television and motion picture scripts by other writers. Many were sent as writing samples to Broyles in his role of producer for China Beach and Under Cover. Some of the television projects represented are 21 Jump Street, Cagney and Lacey, Law and Order, Miami Vice, and Thirty-Something.
