Author and journalist Carlton Stowers has written over two dozen non-fiction books. He donated his writing archive to the Wittliff Collections in 2006. Materials include: clippings, correspondence, court documents, police records, magazines, books, newspapers, manuscripts, audio and videocassettes, typed drafts, notes, thank you letters from children, photos, publicity materials, and various other research materials.

This series consists of bank records and a photograph from Joe Nick Patoski's music management business, Artist Development, Inc. This business existed from about 1985 to 1987, and managed several music groups including Joe "King" Carrasco, Dino Lee, and The True Believers. Patoski managed these groups while he was also working full-time at Texas Monthly.

Photographs and artifacts collected from Hard Scrabble for the John Graves archive. This collection includes photographs of John Graves and his family, including early 20th and late 19th century family photographs. This collection also contains two clay jugs, one leather belt with the silver “infinity” symbol belt buckle worn by John Graves, the camp box that Graves used during his canoe trip for Goodbye to a River, and a 7 weight Loomis fly rod made by Graves.

This series is arranged chronologically, and contains mainly invitations, programs and photographs related to awards and honors bestowed upon Graves. A significant portion of this series deals with the Dallas Museum of Art’s “John Graves Day,” celebrated in May 1995, and includes video recordings of the event as well as correspondence, clippings and programs.

This series contains photographs of Stilwell, the majority of which were taken by his good friend, photographer Russell Lee. Stilwell is featured with his wife, Anne, in many of the photographs, but there is one photograph of Stilwell with J. Frank Dobie. Also found in this series are publicity photographs and one Russell Lee photograph that was used on the cover of Stilwell’s 1972 co-authored book, The Child Who Walks Alone.
