The Clippings Series contains photocopies and original newspaper clippings pertaining to various topics of interest to Sanford or to her family: a 1947 newspaper clipping about oilfield jargon; a broadside from the Southwestern Writers Collection; newspaper articles about Texas painter Jerry Bywaters, whose painting “Oil Field Girls” appeared on the cover of Windfall (1988); materials relating to the death of Suzanne Comer.

Clippings in this subseries cover subjects ranging from Vliet’s early play productions to the posthumous publication of his last novel, Scorpio Rising. These clippings were maintained by the author and filed along with play programs for several plays. This original order has been maintained, so that clippings regarding specific plays are filed here along with the play programs.

This series includes research files and annotated typescripts of Crook’s second novel. The typescripts have been arranged in alphabetical order by the various working titles. Correspondence includes a letter from John Graves commenting on Promised Lands, editorial correspondence with Jackie Onassis, and correspondence regarding publicity. Also includes one black and white publicity photo of Crook by Dan Flores.

The series Notes consists of loose pages and clippings for story ideas. Of particular interest are seven folders of “buttons” – often a single phrase or line, that Cisneros filed away as inspiration for potential poems or stories.
