The bulk of Kindrick’s personal papers include clippings of his “Offbeat” column that appeared in the San Antonio Express News, 1968-1974. The column is a precursor to the workhe would later do at Action Magazine, and the subjects are similar: music, culture, off-beat stories of sports, politics, and society.

This series contains correspondence regarding Cartwright’s writing projects and those of others. The letters are arranged alphabetically. Notable correspondents include Bill Broyles, Cartwright family members, A.C. Greene, Stephen Harrigan, Ann Richards, and Bud Shrake as well as Playboy Magazine, Rolling Stone, and Texas Monthly.
Texas Monthly, 1995-2006
Arranged chronologically, this series includes photocopies and printouts of articles and columns written by Shrake and published in newspapers and magazines, from 1953-2006. These folders do not contain all of Shrake’s published work in periodicals, particularly regarding his years as a sportswriter and police beat reporter in Fort Worth and Dallas. Most notably missing is anything from his work at the Dallas Times Herald.
