Scope and Contents From the Collection: The Willie Nelson Recording Collection spans 1954-2010, chronicling the career of renowned Texas singer, songwriter, and bandleader. The collection contains 877 recordings, including LPs, 45 rpms, audio cassettes, compact discs, VHS cassettes, and DVDs. Included in the collection are recordings under Nelson’s leadership as well as recordings on which he is a guest musician, producer, or songwriter. Abstract From the Series: The archive of musician Terri Hendrix includes correspondence, photographs, programs and flyers, awards, articles about Hendrix, composition notebooks, lyrics, sheet music, recordings, artifacts, and posters. Correspondence includes greeting cards, letters, and fan mail – many from young students. Awards includes her 2016 induction into the San Marcos Women’s Hall of Fame and contains the nomination packet put together by Richard Skanse. Newspaper articles, SXSW and ACL programs, and drafts for the John T. Davis archive. This collection includes a wide expanse of Davis’s articles from 1980-2010, including articles from Davis’s music review column in the Austin-American Statesman. This collection also contains official SXSW and ACL music and program guides, as well as drafts of Davis’s comprehensive ACL book, Austin City Limits: 25 Years of Music.

Series Description

Series II, “Lyrics for Singles, Unrecorded Songs, and Unidentified Songs,” contains 94 folders of lyrics for released as singles or that have yet to be recorded or released. Songs are separated into their own folders, and labeled either by song title (if known) or by a key phrase or line that either “opens” the song or appear to be thematically significant.

Series Description

Series III contains folders of legal-sized notepads, each containing lyrics and/or notes for multiple songs. Song titles (or first lines/key phrases) are listed on each folder.

This series contains posters, programs, flyers, product tie-ins, photos, film pressbooks, articles, clippings, T-shirts, and jackets. The material provides a general picture of the marketing done for Nelson and his band.
