Scope and Contents From the Collection: Cash Edwards and Roger Polson created the 2 linear feet collection of papers for Under the Hat Productions during the company’s sixteen year existence starting in 1984 and ending in 2000. The majority of the papers contained are from the period of 1996 through 1999. The papers include a wide variety of promotional materials for their artist clients as well as a number of market research materials and press clippings. Additions to the John T. Davis Accessions include his extensive subject files, arranged alphabetically by artist. Contents vary, but typically include promotional photographs, Davis’ writings and interview notes, press releases, newspaper clippings, and other ephemera. Not everything in the folders is listed below, but when they exist, photos, interviews, and select items are noted. Folders titles are Davis’.

Scope and Contents From the Collection:

Archival materials relating to the career and personal life of musician/playwright/author, Bobby Bridger from 1944-2018. Included are photographs (including a photo of Bridger with Lady Bird Johnson); promotional material for A Ballad of the West; handwritten lyrics such as Heal in the Wisdom; and Bridger’s vinyl records of Merging of our Minds, And I Wanted to Sing for the People, and Heal in the Wisdom. Also, included in the collection is a screenplay for Shakespeare and the Indians.

Series Description From the Series:

Series II, “Lyrics for Singles, Unrecorded Songs, and Unidentified Songs,” contains 94 folders of lyrics for released as singles or that have yet to be recorded or released. Songs are separated into their own folders, and labeled either by song title (if known) or by a key phrase or line that either “opens” the song or appear to be thematically significant.

Abstract From the Series:

Newspaper articles, SXSW and ACL programs, and drafts for the John T. Davis archive. This collection includes a wide expanse of Davis’s articles from 1980-2010, including articles from Davis’s music review column in the Austin-American Statesman. This collection also contains official SXSW and ACL music and program guides, as well as drafts of Davis’s comprehensive ACL book, Austin City Limits: 25 Years of Music.

Series Description From the Series: The Audio and Video Material Series includes recordings of interviews conducted by the authors for the Stevie Ray Vaughan biography, as well as earlier recordings of published interviews with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan. Series IV: Media Outlets, 1964-2014, undated Boxes 172-177

The bulk of the series is radio station press kits and promotional material. There are a small number of TV stations, news outlets, and film production companies also included. The many radio station coverage maps that span all across Texas are unexpected highlights of this series.

Abstract From the Series: Both black and white and color photographs of Texas musicians while in concert, taken by Michael Frederick includes Max Stalling, Wade Bowen, Blacktop Gypsy, Emory Quinn, Roger Creager, Ray Price and others. The material consists mainly of photographs of Texas musicians at various local venues including Gordos in San Marcos and Gruene Hall, taken by Applegate; some photos have subjects identified on the back but most do not. Material includes performance flyers, concert ticket subs, song lists, and five unprocessed rolls of film removed from a bag labeled “photos of Roger Creager”.
