The bulk of the collection is the correspondences from book reviewers, journalists, and authors, including Jim Lehrer, Larry McMurtry, Rick Bass, and William Goyen. Archival materials following the life of Western writer, J. Evetts Haley, from 1926-2017. The collection contains some of his earliest works, manuscripts, magazine articles, news clippings, obituaries, and books written by his peers about Haley’s legacy. This collection was put together by his close friend, freelance writer, Mike Cox thus most of the books in the collection are signed.

The essays were edited by Edwin “Chip” Arnold and Dianne Luce, and appeared in Perspectives on Cormac McCarthy, the book version of the Southern Quarterly, published by the University Press of Mississippi, September 1993.
