This subseries includes short stories such as “The Morning of the First Day” and “The Morning and the Evening of the First Day”. Many are complete stories, some are fragments or are in draft form. Portions of these examples of Vliet’s early prose would later be worked into the author’s novels.

This series holds drafts of plays and screenplays written by Zagst. Also included are several book reviews authored by Zagst which were published in The Houston Chronicle.
Universities, correspondence, 1976-1979
This series contains journals, address books, correspondence, contracts, royalty payments, articles, clippings and photographs. The major part of the material relates to A Texas Trilogy and is made up of communications with agents, fans, and theaters concerning options on the plays. Included is correspondence with Hal Wallis in regard to the movie production of the Trilogy.
