Pie Town, New Mexico. A community settled by about 200 migrant Texas and Oklahoma farmers who have filed homestead claims. Side of the house of Jack Whinery, farmer. Whinery came to Pie Town last fall from Texas where he had been a farm day laborer. The dugout was built first, small room in the foreground added later. It is characteristic of these people that they retain their dugouts as they add to their houses, 1940

Oral Histories includes audiocassette tapes and transcriptions of oral histories taken by team members are arranged into Subseries A: Pie Town, New Mexico, and Subseries B: San Augustine, Texas. Under each town, materials are filed in alphabetical order by the name of the subject, with the audiocassette tapes first, followed by the transcripts. Most tapes have transcriptions, several do not.

C. to avoid comparison. Against my better judgment I agreed to give it a try and the whole thing (meaning the writing) went downhill after that." Bill Wittliff, February 16, 1989.
