Scope and Contents

Archival materials donated by Laurie E. Jasinski pertaining to Aaron Allan and the Red Nickel Record Collection dating 1947-2019. Aaron Allan (1929-2022) was a well-known disc jockey, prolific songwriter and performer from New Braunfels, Texas. In 1959, Allan did one of the earliest radio interviews with a young, up and coming Johnny Cash while working at WOAI-AM, San Antonio, Texas. The bulk of this collection is related to Aaron Allan’s songwriting and personal music performances as well as his professional collaboration with other country music artists- most notably, Willie Nelson. In 1953, Nelson replaced Allan as disc jockey for KBOP-AM Radio in Pleasanton, Texas, and recorded Allan’s song “Truth Number One” in 1967.

This collection consists of 45 RPM records with songs written and/or recorded by Aaron Allan, song lyric sheets, notes, demo recordings by Aaron Allan on CD, and cassette tapes featuring Aaron Allan, 45 RPMs, CDs including Red Nickel Record recordings and audio cassette tapes commercially recorded by various other country music artists.

Materials also include photographs of Aaron, friends and family, newspaper clippings and promotional material pertaining to performances and accomplishments of Aaron Allan, correspondence, BMI royalty statements, affidavits, work registration forms, framed photographs and portraits, certificates, awards and personal artifacts.
