Biographical Notes
Jesse Herrera (American, b. Mexico 1945) earned his B.A Degree in 1975 in Art and Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.A in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. He documents the people and folkloric traditions of remote areas of Mexico, his native homeland. In addition, some of his work has been featured in various publications dealing with Hispanic culture. Borderlands, Texas Poetry Review, and Art and Ritual in Golden-Age Spain (Princeton University Press, 1998) are recent books featuring his photographs.
A selection of his work is in the permanent collection of the following institutions: The Wittliff Collections, The Center for American History, The Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, The Harry Ransom Humanities Center of The University of Texas at Austin, and The Mexican Fine Arts Center and Museum at Chicago.
