Scope and Contents
Archival materials donated by Austin, Texas based author, music journalist and Grammy nominee, Michael Corcoran dating 1911-2019. After moving to Texas in 1984, Corcoran worked as the country music critic for the Dallas Morning News. In 1994, he became the pop music critic for the Dallas Morning News until his move to Austin in 1995. In 1995, Corcoran joined the writing staff of the Austin American Statesman working as a music critic until his retirement in 2011. The bulk of the materials in this collection includes articles written by Corcoran, research notes and research materials for articles, drafts, interviews, correspondence, and newspaper clippings pertaining to rock and gospel musicians and bands, sports, dining, humor and true crime. Material also includes books, CDs, Corcoran’s high school yearbook, scrapbook, poster, photographs, ephemera and a wood sign from the Magnolia Benevolent Burial Club, a freedmen’s benevolent society Simsboro, Texas. Titles preceding a semi-colon reflect the author’s original titles.
