Archival material pertaining to the life and career of writier and rock historian, Ed Ward (1948-2021). Materials dating 1962-2019 include interview transcripts (musicians, bands, music industry icons), memorabilia and ephemera pertaining to Ward’s staff positions with Rolling Stone and the Austin American-Statesman, early writings, copies of the Antioch College McDowell Weakly, research materials (including reporter’s notebooks, notepads and index cards) pertaining to music, art, food and travel writing assignments, extensive research material on the R&B group, the “5” Royales, personal and professional correspondence, fan and hate mail, datebooks, book proposals, newspaper and magazine clippings of published articles and reviews by Ed Ward including articles for Creem, Rolling Stone magazines, the Austin American-Statesman, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Wall Street Journal Europe and the Financial Times Deutschland and edited drafts of published and unpublished articles as well as edited chapter and manuscript draft copies for Rock of Ages: The Rolling Stone History of Rock and Roll and advance reading copies of Ward’s History of Rock and Roll, Volumes I & Volume II. Also included in this collection are personal ephemera including Ward’s tape recorder and photographic light meter, school yearbooks, Antioch College transcript black & white photographs, 35mm slides, 35mm negatives, original drawings and posters, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, audio CDs and rare reel-to-reel tapes including Bob Dylan masters and Asleep at the Wheel.
