Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a newsletter put out by the Office of Computing Services on a monthly, and later once per semester, basis. Beginning in 1975, it provided important information about personnel changes, computer and memory acquisitions, guidelines for running computer programs, training sessions, and general administration information, such as lab hours and the computer center directory. The title changed over the years, and it has been known as the Computer Center Newsletter, the Computing Services Newsletter, and Computing Network News. Volume and issue designation dropped with Feb. 1987 issue, resumed with Sept. 1990 issue. Numbering is not consistent. Only one issue published in years 1995-1997 (vol. 14-16). Publication ceased in 1997. Items are arranged chronologically.

Historical note - Computing Services Newsletter

The Computing Services Newsletter aimed to maintain a meaningful dialogue with university employees regarding the available computer resources and how to use them most effectively. The title changed over the years, and it has been known as the Computer Center Newsletter, the Computing Services Newsletter, and Computing Network News.

Historical note - Texas State University

Texas State University was established by the 26th Legislature in 1899 as the Southwest Texas State Normal School; 313 pupils were enrolled in 1903-04, the first year classes were held. The school name changed to Southwest Texas State Normal College in 1918, to Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1925, to Southwest Texas State College in 1959, to Southwest Texas State University in 1969, to Texas State University-San Marcos in 2003, and to Texas State University in 2013.
