Captain George P. Taylor American Flag
Scope and Contents
This accession consists of one American flag used to honor alumnus Captain George P. Taylor, who died in 1984. Captain Taylor USNR, is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. The flag was presented in 1991 to the University's Alumni Relations Office by his widow, Professor Emerita and Distinguished Alumna Mary-Agnes Taylor.

Biographical / Historical
George P. Taylor was born on September 17, 1915. He graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College on May 27, 1941, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Taylor served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam before his retirement in 1966. Captain Taylor died on December 1, 1984.
Taylor married fellow SWTTC alumna Mary-Agnes Pehl in 1942. In 1967 she returned to her alma mater as a professor specializing in Children's Literature and was named Professor Emerita upon retirement in 1991. Texas State University presented Mary-Agnes Taylor with Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 2008. Professor Taylor died on August 15, 2015.
