Hearn-Zirkle Diary, 1940 - 1943

 Series — Box: 1, Folder: 1-2

Scope and Contents

One diary includes entries written by Hearn covering the years 1940, 1943, and 1944. Hearn attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College during the 1940s entries, and the entries feature Hearn’s desire for better grades. Many entries contain information pertaining to Mr. Dallas Williams, a speech professor who taught Hearn to lip read. 1940 entries last until April 19.

Transcription of the diary by Hearn’s daughter, Elaine Zirkle-Adams, was provided verbatim by page. This usually followed a chronological pattern with poems, addresses, and important dates in the back. Spelling corrections, comments and questions were supplied by the transcriber in enclosed brackets. Punctuation and capitalization were not corrected to maintain the writer’s style. A CD with the transcription file is also provided.
