Press release and cutlines about Johnson's attendance at the Bobcat Club banquet, where he awarded the first J.C. Kellam award to Jim Stienke, a NAIA All-American defensive back from Johnson City. The Kellam Award was an outgrowth of the 1971 Bobcat Club banquet, at which LBJ presented at $25,000 check to the club to start the scholarship. Josh Brown was named outstanding offensive player, Jimmy Jowers, was named outstanding defensive player, and Kyle Bolen was named outstanding freshman.
