Scope and Contents
These materials document the work done by University administration following the 2003 legislation that changed the name from Southwest Texas State University to Texas State University-San Marcos.
Materials include personal notes, communication plans, correspondence, opinions, news clippings, meeting minutes, other papers, and artifacts. Rowe was the head of the communications team for the name change in 2003. Included in this accession is a copy of “Name Change in Ten Weeks,” which was a booklet outlining the change of the university’s name with a timeline. This booklet was distributed to University faculty.
Also included is information related to University name changes in 1959 (to Southwest Texas State College) and 1969 (to Southwest Texas State University), and an attempted name change in 1975.
