LBJ pedestal figures, 1970s
Scope and Contents
Pedestal figures of president Lyndon Johnson, produced by Louis Marx and Company. The front of the pedestal is labeled "L. Johnson" and the back has his presidential term.
First introduced in 1954, the presidential figures -- which came to be known as "pedestal figures" by collectors - were produced until the the Marx company was sold in 1972. Initial collections were created in white hard plastic. In an effort to boost sales in later years, figures were offered in both factory-painted and paint-it-yourself options to attract new buyers.
