Historical Note

College President Dr. John G. Flowers was unable to attend commencement because of his recent heart attack, so he wrote an introduction to Vice President Johnson so another speaker could read it on stage. Johnson's address was on the topic of the war on poverty, and he challenged each of the graduates to repay the investments made into their education by helping to eliminate poverty around the world.
