Biography

Helen Hornsby (1974-1965) was born January 14, 1874. She was the great-granddaughter of Reuben Hornsby and Sarah Morrison Hornsby, who settled in Texas in 1830 and 1832.

Helen Hornsby was one of the first 17 faculty at Southwest Texas State Normal School, teaching from 1903 to 1919. Hornsby Hall, a women's dormitory, was named for her. Following her teaching career, she married Charles Buchanan Crawford, a pioneer cattleman. They had a home in San Marcos and spent time on their ranch property in Hays County. Mrs. Helen Hornsby Crawford died September 20, 1965 and is buried in Hornsby Bend Cemetery in Travis County.

Abstract

Helen Hornsby was one of the first 17 faculty at Southwest Texas State Normal School, teaching from 1903 to 1919. Collection includes materials owned and collected by Helen Hornsby Crawford and her family. Includes topics related to the university, such as Lyndon Johnson, the inauguration of Robert Hardesty, homecoming, and the 50th reunion of the SWT class of 1949.
