Biography

Milton Jowers was born July 12, 1914 in McMahan, Texas. He enrolled in Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1931 and graduated in 1935. He joined the Navy in 1941, where he rose to the rank of commander. Milton Jowers was a successful basketball and football coach from 1946-1972 at Texas State University. Jowers took the Bobcats basketball team to the National NAIA Tournament in Kansas City six times, and ended up winning the national championship in 1960.

Abstract

Collection of materials relating to Vernon McDonald's time and tenure at Southwest Texas University (now Texas State University). An alumni, McDonald returned to work as a coach and became the head basketball coach from 1961-1977.
