Biography
Kirk was born 1898 January 20 in Washington D.C. and raised on a farm in Maryland. He received his A.B. at Princeton in 1922. He taught at Iowa University and where he obtained his Masters degree, before arriving as faculty at Rutgers University. While teaching, he worked on his doctorate at nearby Princeton. Kirk received his Ph.D. in 1932. He spent 35 years there in the department of English. After retiring, Kirk was invited to come to then Southwest Texas State College as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in 1963, before moving on to be a visiting professor at University of Wisconsin in 1964.
Kirk married Clara Marburg on 1930 September 8 and they had two children, Susanne and Donald. The couple wrote numerous books and articles together. Rudolf was a Fulbright Professor at the same time Clara was a Fulbright Scholar in Belgium.
Kirk passed away 1989 November 7.

Clara Marburg Kirk, was an American author married to a professor at Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University), Rudolf Kirk. This collection contains materials related to her book "Oliver Goldsmith" along with a small amount of personal papers.
