Dobie, Dudley R., 1904-1982
Biography
Dudley R. Dobie, Sr. was born August 6, 1904. He attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College, graduating in May 1927 with a history degree. He later pursued a masters degree in history at the University of Texas at Austin. He was involved with many Texas history associations, including the Texas Centennial Commission. He was a first cousin of J. Frank Dobie.
Dobie served as a part-time history instructor and part-time University Museum director at SWTSTC from 1941-1951. He also served as secretary for the Ex-Student's Association in the 1940s. He was a rare book collector and dealer, and a local historian and author. His work, A Brief History of Hays County and San Marcos, Texas, was published in 1948.
Dudley R. Dobie, Sr. died on April 17, 1982. He is buried in Lagarto Cemetery, Live Oak County, Texas.

Alumni Association records
The Alumni Association records are comprised of correspondence, photographs and ephemera dating from the early 1900s to the 1940s. The records consist primarily of handwritten and typed correspondence from former Southwest Texas students during the 1940s, including those serving in the U.S. military during World War II. It also includes one scrapbook from 1972.
