Initiated in May 1979, the university holds this ceremony toward the end of the spring semester to recognize faculty and staff for longevity of service and for retirment. Reports prepared by Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) which list and summarize statistics on student enrollment by department, broken down by professor, courses taught, credit hours, and number of students enrolled. These reports are also known as "The 12th Class Day Report" or the "The 4th Class Day Report." Statistics for summer sessions are taken on the 4th day of classes, with fall and spring statistics taken on the 12th day of classes.
